About Amsterdam

Five years ago, 800 Resistance agents gathered in Amsterdam and won the first anomaly in the Netherlands. Come and help us repeat this feat! Amsterdam will always be blue

Amsterdam offers you so much more....

Whether it be cycling through the beautiful streets of Amsterdam, visiting a world famous museum or learning about Dutch culture and history, Amsterdam has so much more to offer than what can be found in coffee shops or at the Red Light District. Here are a few things you can do whilst visiting the “Venice of the North.”

We will do our best to provide all the information needed to participate. Check out the frequently asked questions on the right. If you have any other questions you may contact

“The world around you is not what it seems.” Ingress is a location-based, augmented-reality mobile game developed by Niantic. Two opposing factions fight for the control of "portals" at places of cultural significance, such as public art, landmarks, monuments, etc., and linking them to create virtual triangular "control fields" over geographical areas.

The Resistance protects humanity from Shaper ingression, preserving humanity's freedom. We provide an inclusive environment for all players to express themselves and enjoy discovering the world around them.

Children are very welcome as long as they are supervised by an adult. Please mention the age of the child/children when registering your team in the comments section. Please note that an anomaly spans an entire afternoon and can involve approximately 6-10 km of walking.

You will be part of a team so let the team know when you will arrive and depart and they can take your participation into account and make arrangements within the team.

After registering and once the organisation team has verified you, you will be invited to join the g+community page. On this page all details will be given to prepare you well for the event. It’s also a great place to get in touch with agents who have experienced previous anomalies.

On the g+ community tips will be given on acquiring a dutch sim card. The organising team have taken into account that there will be a demand for sim cards and provisions are being taken to make obtaining a sim card as easy and as cheap as possible.

Attending the event can be entirely free as a medal can be obtained for free by all participants. You may need money for public transport, food and drink, and any merchandise (swag) you like, etc. At previous events if you wanted an early or guaranteed access to the Niantic after-party where the results will be announced, you could purchase a common pack containing a wristband, sold by Niantic via the official event website. For the swag savvy amongst us there were Rare Packs containing a pin, bio card and more! The hardcore collectors could have chosen the Very Rare Pack containing exclusive swag items, a patch and VIP after-party access. Currently we don’t know yet what will happen this anomaly

Yes of course you may. Please choose a moment before 12:00 or after 17:15 and incorporate the colour blue into your wedding attire.

Previous anomalies in The Netherlands!

The Amsterdam Abaddon Anomaly will be the fifth anomaly to take place in The Netherlands. So far we have welcomed agents to anomalies in Amsterdam (Interitus), Rotterdam (Helios), Utrecht (Persepolis) and Rotterdam (Aegis Nova). But we had many other events as well, including the famous Shonin shards in Rotterdam!

What is an anomaly?

I’ve been hearing a lot about this anomaly thing lately, what is it?

In Ingress, the fight to keep a portal or a city blue is an everyday and ongoing battle. We try to protect humanity from the influence of exotic matter and the Shaper ingression.

At this official Ingress event we can measure our strength with our opponents. Armed with our phones, we fight in teams for specific portals in the centre of Amsterdam.

Instead of using your inventory, you will burn through your inventory at lightspeed!!! Instead of playing with others, you will be playing with thousands!!!

So what are we fighting for in this battle?

By winning we can influence the storyline (as to be seen in the Ingress reports on Youtube). Maybe you will even catch a glimpse of a storyline character. For more storyline intel look here:

We also fight for eternal fame and glory. But most of all, because it is fun! You can meet new people from across the globe, see a different city and work together.

Players who have been to other anomalies before are more than happy to help players who just started, because every agent counts and every agent can make a difference!

We would love to welcome you in Amsterdam! The most famous city in the Netherlands.

Cluster vs Flash Shards?

There are two types of anomalies and a hybrid of the two is also possible.

In a Cluster anomaly there are 4 clusters of portals. Each cluster has a measurement window for measuring the score, after which you move from one cluster to the next. In these windows you battle for assigned portals in that cluster. The windows are an hour apart so this anomaly will last approximately 4 hours.

In the case of a Flash Shards anomaly we are dealing with one large impact zone within which Flash Shards will periodically spawn on portals. For each faction target portals will manifest, also called receivers. The Shards can move/jump over links to other portals. The goal is to get as many Shards to our target portals by linking the Shard portals to the receiver portal. The Flash Shard anomalies can last slightly longer than the cluster anomalies, about 5 to 6 hours.

Which type of anomaly Niantic will choose for Amsterdam has not been determined.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask the Amsterdam Anomaly Team.
P.S. Make sure to make plenty of team selfies and other pictures ;)
P.P.S. We have parties, after parties and after after parties!
